Internet Resources for the Jewish Caregiver

Jewish CommunityAt Fall River Jewish Home, community education is a part of our mission. That commitment extends to our friends across the state of Massachusetts who are the caregiver of an elderly loved one. Often times that leaves them isolated and feeling cut off from friends, family and even members of their church or synagogue. Fortunately the internet provides us with a great many connections. This week, we thought it would be helpful to share a few resources that might be of interest to our friends of the Jewish faith.

The National Center for Jewish Learning & Leadership

This site will likely be a favorite for busy caregivers who would like a quick way to connect with timely articles, books and videos. They do a great job of linking readers to articles currently in the news and offering topics that range from Politics & Culture to Personal Growth.

The Jewish Woman section of Chabad.org

On this site you will find an area devoted to "Our Parents". Topics range from Between Two Worlds: Caring for my Mother to Refusing to Lose My Mother to Alzheimer's. Caregivers will likely relate to these highly personal stories.

Association of Jewish Family & Children's Agencies

They are an organization made up of 125 local Jewish family associations. While the site is geared largely toward supporting its membership organizations, they can also help connect families to services in their area. That is especially helpful if you are new to the area or are traveling.

Hebrew Senior Life

An affiliate of Harvard Medical School, their website is rich with information, videos and additional resources. Older adults and families will be especially interested in the ReAge movement.

The New Old Age

This is regular column in the New York Times that explores topics of interest to the adult child of an aging parent. Past topics have ranged from end-of-life care to the debate over in-home care.

Are you a caregiver of an aging loved one? Have you found an internet resource that you might particularly helpful?
