FAQ from Families Seeking Long-term Care in a Jewish Community in Massachusetts

FAQOur social worker, Regina, has the privilege of working with families who are considering Fall River Jewish Home for an aging loved one. She guides them through the process, answers their questions and takes them on a tour of the community.

Many families that Regina talks with each day are looking for a senior living community that honors Jewish traditions. We recently asked Regina to share some of the common questions and concerns she hears from families when they call or visit.

Q: What are some of questions you are asked most often by families seeking a Jewish community for an older loved one?

Regina: One question I consistently hear from families is whether or not the facility is kosher. And we are truly 100% kosher. That puts their mind at ease to know their loved one will be in a community that adheres to kosher laws.

Q: Are there any other common concerns related to faith?

Regina: Prospective residents and their families ask about religious services. Especially if prospective resident has mobility issues that make it more difficult to go outside the nursing center to attend services. We offer Jewish services every weekend. And because we are open to all faiths, we offer Mass once a month too.

Q: Where are most of your prospective residents coming from?

Regina: Because of our strong reputation, we have residents that come to us from all over Massachusetts. And we even have some that come from the Providence, Rhode Island area because there isn’t a Jewish senior living community or rehab center there. We are the closest one.

Q: Do you celebrate Jewish holidays at the community?

Regina: Yes, we do. We strive to make the care center comfortable for our friends from the Jewish community. That includes celebrating all of the Jewish holidays.

Q: Are there any other thoughts you would like to share with readers of our blog?

Regina: I think it is important for families of all faiths to understand that everyone feels guilty about this decision. What I’d like to share with them is the reassurance that their loved one will be in good hands with us. We have built a strong reputation for service over the past 87 years because we are compassionately committed to serving older adults.
