Fall River Jewish Home Recognizes Hospice Month

The month of November is National Hospice Month. It is a month to educate the community about hospice and palliative care, as well as take time to recognize the dedicated nurses, social workers, aides and bereavement counselors who provide end of life care.

Hospice Journey – This not-for-profit organization gives families an easy avenue for creating a website for a family member facing a terminal illness. The service is free. You can learn more at: https://www.hospicejourney.org/

Lotsa Helping Hands – This great web-based organization allows those who want to support a loved one through challenging times to sign up to help with daily tasks. A designated family Coordinator can set up a community online. Then friends and family can use the calendar to pitch in to bring dinners, schedule transportation help, and more. There is no cost to create your own community. You can find Lotsa Helping Hands at: https://caringconnections.lotsahelpinghands.com/eldercare/home/

Journey of Hearts – This online support is for those grieving and healing from a loss. You will find "elements of medicine, psychiatry, poetry, prose and images to provide resources and support to those who have experienced loss, be it acute or long- standing" on this site. Visit them at: https://www.journeyofhearts.org/

National Family Caregivers Association – This organization is packed with information for family caregivers. It also hosts a "Family Caregiver Forum". The forum is a place caregivers can go for support. They have chat boards arranged by topics ranging from "Getting Physicians to Take Notice" to "Caregiver Depression". You can also request a new topic be added. Find their support at: https://www.nfcacares.org/

National Institute for Jewish Hospice – NIJH works with hospices and health-care agencies to alert and educate them on the plight of the Jewish terminally ill. They have a toll-free hotline for families and caregivers in need that is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. They have an online bookstore and other articles and resources for families. You can also order NIJH Jewish Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney for a nominal fee. Find their site at: https://www.nijh.org/index.html
